I think this is a great idea, and can't think of any downsides.
I also agree with the previous comments that if automated comms can be built in, that will help us remind hiring managers of next steps.

Could you please ensure that when the status is changed, the "Recruiter" on the job card gets an email to start doing the bulk compile and comms to start doing the shortlisting, and also the applicants get some comms out saying the shortlisting process has started or something similar to that?

This is a great idea. I am happy for this change to occur provided automated communications are sent to both managers and applicants that the processed has closed and to advise the manager to commence shortlisting and for that applicants that they will be contacted regarding next steps soon.
