It would allow the applicant to be able to be more specific with their discipline and major.

What is the business process you are trying to achieve?

With the current list of Disciplines and Majors, it doesn't always represent current disciplines and majors. Some of the current disciplines listed are no longer being used or is an older term for the discipline.
