Date of Birth - Field picker - New-starters are finding it hard to use

Date of Birth - Field picker - New-starters are finding it hard to use

What is the business process you are trying to achieve?

Our New-starters seem to struggle with the date picker on the new-starter forms.

It means our HRIS is often filled with wrong dates of birth because new-starters give up on trying to use it and select a random date.

I personally like the UX as it apparently suits how my brain works. That said a large amount of other users report it's not intuitive and hard to use. Our survey particularly has applicant responses marking the DOB picker as hard to use.

Many people don't realise you can click the year. Therefore they scroll through each month. This means the user is doing 20-70 X 12 months ~ 600 clicks.

Is it possible to review the UX of the DOB picker in New-starter forms? It would be great to make it really obvious that the year can be clicked to quickly select the year of the DOB.

Workaround - We have added in text to say "Please click the year to quickly select your year of birth".

Thank you for your patience with this. Our development team is now working on replacing Chronos' date picker with the browser's default date picker, which will address the majority of the issues associated with the previous date picker including this one.

We continue to have integration issues in sending new hire data from PageUp to our HRIS due to the date picker formatting. Can PageUp give us any idea when an enhancement for this will be rolled out since this is aligned with the future direction of the software?

When new starters do not read the instructions about adhering to an unfamiliar date format, they enter their DOB using a familiar format and the date picker assigns a date that is wrong. For example, entering 02/06/90 consistently returns a value of Jan 2, 2006. Assuming that they've entered their DOB correctly they are off to the next field. Please change this field for use cases were different date formats are the norm and continue to allow validation so we can limit the birth year selected (i.e. must fall between 1902-2008).

Have experienced similar issues in the last few months with DoB coming through as incorrect. A few defaulting the year to 2020, and 1 recently where only the day was correct. We will be adding text to encourage new starters to use the date picker instead of typing in their DoB, however, I believe separate drop down boxes for DD MM YYYY will be more efficient in helping to eliminate incorrect entries. Alternatively, different text boxes to type DD MM YYYY. As stated in previous comments, the most challenging part with a date picker is getting the year correct, either through too many clicks to find the right year, or not realising you can change the year and picking the date for the current year.

Agree - we're having this issue a lot as well. Tried it myself and it's pretty clunky, it wasn't very apparent the date could be selected.

Was even thinking about adding a screenshot for our less systems savvy new starters...

Thanks for comments, yes I agree for American+other MM/DD/YYYY makes sense. Perhaps a setting?

With the integration issues it would be great to validate that a DOB is reasonable. Even something that checks the person is at least 5 years old would solve a lot of our problems. (People love entering today's date into a DOB field...)

We are a new customer as of September, and yes, our users have this problem as well...and not having the proper DOB is a huge problem for many other integrations related to our data feeds after hire. We also have added help text, but it would even help if the form validated and stopped the "save" for anyone submitting a birthdate that is future dated, or in our case results in an age less than 16. It's also a problem, because it is not easy to update within PageUp, so we have to have our Integrations team modify the export file, in lieu of restarting the entire offer process.

We are a new customer as of June 2020 and struggle with this as well. We hire about 40 people every two weeks and on average, we have 4-6 of them that have invalid dates (including future dates!). We'd rather see a standard US DOB field available they can type numbers into and have it show in MM/DD/YYYY format. We have done a couple revisions on the help text and it has improved, but we still have too many new hires with invalid dates.
